Written and photographic documentation of object's condition and their treatment is a mandatory part of the firm's procedures, as dictated by the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works in their Standards of Practice, and are archived at Steven Pickman Objects Conservation, LLC. Basic documentation includes the following two components:

     1.  A Condition Report and Treatment Proposal is produced prior to treatment, containing a written and photographic narrative of the piece in its current condition and proposed conservation treatment steps. This report is generated from the in-depth examination of the artwork/object(s) and research undertaken by the conservator. The report serves as the foundation for a permanent record upon which future, informed choices of action can be built; it attempts to not only identify the current and extant of damage to the artwork but also the causes behind the damage. The report is also meant to serve as a guide for the treatment proposal, providing the justification behind proposed actions.

     2.  A Treatment Report is produced following conservation treatment, containing the steps undertaken by the conservator with materials and equipment used, recommendations for appropriate future care, and post-treatment images. The information contained within will cover both remedial actions undertaken and preventative actions by the conservator.
